A cat with mashed potatoes. This dish was actually on the menu of 32-year-old metalworker Daniel S., who not only killed his partner’s cat, but also his 50-year-old partner Miriam B., and that was by no means all this man had to answer for. Daniel S., who lived in an apartment in the Wollmatingen district of Konstanz, killed his 70-year-old neighbor Ilse Z. in January 2012. He overpowered the old woman and suffocated her with a plastic bag. Then he dragged her to her apartment and laid her in bed. The woman was not found until days later, and because she was seriously ill, it was assumed that she had died of natural causes. Just six months later, Daniel S. got into an argument in the apartment of his partner Miriam B. in the Petershausen district of Konstanz. Without further ado, he grabbed her and held her head under water in the bathtub until she drowned in agony. Once again, foul play was ruled out. Daniel S.’s motive for both murders was quite simple. He was simply annoyed by the women. He then killed his dead partner’s cat with a baseball bat. He slaughtered it in the garage and then went back to the kitchen, where he relished frying the dead, skinned cat in a pan. He then ate it with mashed potatoes, which he recorded on video. After his partner’s death, Daniel S. got together with a 26-year-old woman, whom he brutally raped and abused for hours in February 2013, along with her 30-year-old friend. His goal was to kill both women. But one of the women managed to escape through a bathroom window. The police arrested Daniel S. and questioned him about the rape allegations. Without being asked, he confessed to the murders of the two women. He later recanted this statement. The case went to trial. According to Judge Arno Hornstein, Daniel S., who suffers from a personality disorder, had committed “multiple rapes of the worst kind.” Daniel S. was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Constance Regional Court for double murder, rape, severe physical abuse, and grievous bodily harm, among other things. Due to the particular severity of his crimes, the convicted man cannot be released after 15 years, even if he demonstrates good behavior. This is little consolation for the women who survived and suffered indescribable torment.
