More than 3,000 homicides in Germany remain unsolved. One of these so-called cold cases, which still sends shivers down the spine, is the murder of 57-year-old lawyer Norbert Hübener. He was considered a Casanova who lived in a villa in the fashionable Kneipp spa town of Bad Wörishofen. When friends were unable to reach the reliable lawyer for days, they entered his villa with a spare key on November 4, 1993. There they found their friend Norbert lying dead on the sofa. Next to the dead man was a slide showing a naked woman with death. Norbert Hübener was a passionate nude photographer whose cupboards were full of nude photographs. He had also had over a hundred lovers, but questioning them by the police led to no clues. According to the autopsy report, Norbert Hübener had been killed, presumably with an axe, between 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on October 29. The murder weapon has not been found to this day. The police determined that all cash and the EC card were missing. On the night of the murder, money was withdrawn from the ATM at the Lonetal-Ost service station on the A7 motorway using the stolen check card. In the following days until November 8, a total of 17,100 German marks were withdrawn from various ATMs in Bavaria. In Augsburg alone, 16 withdrawals were made. According to witness statements, the perpetrator was a 25 to 30-year-old man who was accompanied by a woman. Despite composite sketches, the search for the two suspects was unsuccessful. After the murder of Norbert Hübener, a special commission was formed at the Memmingen Criminal Investigation Department. In 1995, the first appeal for information was made on the well-known television program Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst (File Number XY … Unsolved). However, this was unsuccessful. It was not until September 24, 2009, when a local newspaper revisited the Norbert Hübener murder case on the 20th anniversary of the program Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst, that a witness came forward. Based on this information, a 50-year-old man who had been working as a craftsman in Bad Wörishofen at the time of the crime and had lived not far from Norbert Hübener came under suspicion. It also emerged that he had been in financial difficulties at the time. Intensive background investigations led to the identification of a second suspect who had been living in Türkheim at the time of the crime and was known to the other suspect. However, he died in March 2013 without any outside influence. The woman who was seen withdrawing the money has not yet been identified. Unfortunately, the evidence against the suspect was not sufficient to bring charges against him. The Memmingen Criminal Investigation Department therefore offered a reward of €15,000 and is still hoping for information from witnesses among the general public.
